This special cover letter was written for a client of mine which she bought as part of her standard CV Writing package, including a bespoke cover letter.
It's rather different from the usual job application letter because it was written specially for a very different application altogether. The position being applied for is on the British television show "The Apprentice" hosted by Sir Alan Sugar, where a number of hopefuls compete to carry out business related tasks with the eventual winner becoming Sir Alan's apprentice. And that job carries a £100,000 salary.
That will explain why this special cover letter is different - and my client has an interview on Saturday!
Here is the special cover letter with the client name removed:
As an extremely ambitious, energetic and driven individual I am confident that I am the right person to be considered for the Apprentice position. I am certain that the combination of positions I have held will make my application of considerable interest to you. My experience as detailed in the attached CVcovers the key elements of your requirements as you described on the website.
What makes me one of the strongest candidates to come forward?
I have this massive hunger for success and built my career in London from scratch after arriving from Russia in 2002 as you can see.
I manage to keep a healthy balance with all my key relationships by having a productive business attitude during working hours and simple friendship after hours.
I am in the habit of writing my goals for every year ahead and keeping the track of them as I reach them.
My goals for the next 5 years are to change my employer which will mean change of environment and will make me stretch my boundaries. I have been working for enough time in one place and it's time to move on. I would see myself developing in the new organization and would like to be in Senior Management.
In 10 years time I would like to have my own profitable business which I will be able to pass on to my family. If not my own business, I would do my best to achieve the highest standard wherever I will be working and, believe me, my standards are high.

P.S. I would like to restate keenest interest in the position of Apprentice. Also, I would like to mention that my strict Russian upbringing is nicely mixed with a westernised personality due to me being very perceptive and my love for travel. I have seen the world and travelled a lot both for pleasure and work. I am very familiar with many world cultures such as Eastern European, Western, American, Japanese, Far Eastern.
I was born with a strong sales instinct and glad that I discovered this talent in myself after years of being a teacher. I can do any job and always do it with my heart and soul as I am an ambitious, driven person who gets pleasure from both the process and the result.
A Very Individual Cover Letter
You will note from the way I've written the special cover letter that it is a lot more forceful and 'pushy' than the more restrained cover letter that you usually see.
You will also see that I've used a P.S. at the end of the letter. No-one can resist reading a P.S. so its purpose here is to add another layer of emphasis to the eagerness with which my client is applying for this position.
Remember, if you've seen the TV show, the candidates are competing against each other to win the fabulous prize with a massive salary so it is definitely not for 'shrinking violets'.
Normally you would not be quite so forceful, but every case needs and deserves the right approach. And this particular case involving the TV show 'The Apprentice' needs a special cover letter.
