I've written this
small business ideas section of the website to give you a number of interesting ways of thinking about your career change. In my experience, many people see an opportunity to start a small business when their job prospects have become changed by circumstances - whether you've been laid off or made redundant, it could be another way to produce the income you need by starting a part-time business of your own.
Sometimes the only way forward is to work on the basis that if no-one else will employ me, I'd better employ myself.
I have already added a number of small business ideas to this section to explain in detail what you might need to do if the idea of working from home appeals to you.
1. You sell your own products or services.
This might be something you produce yourself such as a hand made garden sheds or a book about how to make garden sheds. Maybe you offer a design service for kitchen renovations or write CVs and Resumes like I do. You will have noticed that I also write a lot of ebooks to complement this website for example my own Career Change Guide.
2. You simply introduce other people's products and services
There are many opportunities to introduce or promote other people's products and services and make money online. The internet simplifies the whole process because you can very easily find things that coincide with your own interests and perhaps complement your knowledge of some subject. By this I mean you could write about your expert subject of garden sheds and provide a sales link for something complementary like this Garden Shed Plans - you could find graphic images like this:

As another idea, if you are passionate about something - say environmental issues and renewable energy, you could put forward your case in the form of a website with as many pages as topics you care about. Then all you need are some links to Green DIY Energy or something similar you can easily find, it took me just a couple of minutes to find this ad below and set it up.

The beauty of this approach is that you don't have to do any selling to make money online. You simply use your knowledge and expertise to write about the topics you know best and, as in the garden sheds example, let the expertly written sales message do the selling for you. Don't underestimate the value of your knowledge - if it's important to you, then you can be sure that it is important to other people and they will coming looking for the information you provide.
3. You merely act as a 'go-between'
Without looking for anything to sell or promote, one of the simplest small business ideas is that you can become a 'go-between' and allow sellers and buyers to find out other through the medium of your site. The simplest model here is to open a Google Adsense account and then place some 'contextual' ads on your site by simply adding a short piece of code that Google supplies.
The key to making money online is getting people to come and see what you have to offer - like getting them to walk through the door of a shop you just opened. But they can only do that if they know where the shop is or if someone directs them there. If you can write with knowledge about almost any subject people will be interested, and if you can follow a few relatively simple guidelines and instructions you will be able to rely on the search engines - you know Google and Yahoo plus hundreds of others - to direct people to your shop front (your website). That's what I do and that's probably why you are here reading this page now.
How do I do it? I use SiteSell and you can check them out and ask any questions you like, I guarantee you will find them open and honest with you. And clearly that's what you need if they are going to help you, like me, to make money online!
