Writing a good Sales Director CV means that you include only the information that matches the job so that recruiters find you interesting as a candidate. It also means that you should provide enough evidence about your sales results to appear convincing and professional, but without going into too much fine detail. See the CV example on this page.
A hard hitting summary which identifies you as a Sales Director who can deliver results: sales volume, new accounts and incremental revenue increases consistently should be your first priority. It also helps to highlight in bold font your Job Designation, which may or may not be your actual title.
People often ask me about how to make their CV stand out and catch the eye of the recruiter. As a sales director you appreciate the importance of selling, but you must not use boxes, tables, graphics or lots of coloured fonts or a photograph to sell yourself.

Your words alone have to convey the appropriate image and to do that they must be appropriate, relevant, significant and quantified where possible.
This is why it is not sufficient, when preparing your sales CV to refer simply to responsibilities. You have to define the substance of the responsibility or the crucial purpose of the role and then place it into context.
The difference then becomes clear: the statement becomes one of responsible TO (i.e. the board of directors) and accountable FOR. This is the best principle to apply to any CV, not just a director's CV because it creates a dynamic feel to the writing and shows that you are prepared to stand up and be counted.
For example:
"UK Sales Director accountable to the main board for developing the team and driving the sales of Human Capital Development and Management (HCM) solutions to high end corporate organisations..."
And
"Increased the customer base from 6 traditional High Street retailers to nearly 100 accounts including supermarkets, on-line stores and other non traditional outlets."
So when writing a sales director CV in this way, it removes any doubt about the true purpose of the executive's job role and leaves the way open to describe HOW the responsibility is discharged. Because as a sales director you must demonstrate the ability to make strategic decisions.
You will normally be responsible to the Managing Director for Sales Team, and achieving the Business Plan results. Also have responsibility for the safe-keeping of all assets used by the 'Sales' force, for example mobile phones, company cars, and computers / laptops, plus you will have the same legal requirements as for any statutory company Director.
You must also be able to inspire others to share their vision and support them to reach a common goal, be expert at coordinating and planning of budgets, people and time/ sales management and be dedicated to improving bottom line results.

You can use a section of 'Key Achievements' to highlight the most important results or I recommend that you attach the outputs to each section of your professional history.
Better to write a short section of Key Strengths or 'core competencies' which are so inherent in your abilities and make your candidacy for the new role even more compelling, like this:
Key Skills:
- High level sales expertise; creating cutting edge standards in sales execution processes; design of internal sales support systems and procedures to engage and manage new prospects and existing customers through the sales cycle.
- Developing excellent client relationships, demonstrating an understanding of their needs and their pressures to build effective partnerships with their company, leading to retention of all customers, by diplomatic and professional approach to account management.
- Great people management based on strong communication, motivation and team building skill; the growth of a company can only be achieved by the people within it.
- Strong leadership and advanced problem-solving skills; ability to thrive under pressure; leading and teaching by example, delegating according to ability.
- Establishing sensible targets and then working effectively to achieve them with regular internal meetings to brainstorm team ideas; formulating action plans and delivering to the potential market.
