PA Career Change

I want a career change and would like to know what I need to be p.a in a office for someone.

A Personal assistant is a responsible job as the person you would be looking after will rely on you to manage their time - diary, travel and conference bookings etc. and responsible for management and administrative support of time and agenda; scheduling meetings, conferences and business trips; diary management and co-ordination to achieve the maximum effectiveness of time.

Some of the skills you would need are:

Excellent organizational skills and telephone manner, tact, diplomacy, and communication skills; experienced in dealing with customers and high level workloads within strict deadlines.

Mature, energetic and hard-working; able to maintain confidentiality in sensitive matters and display excellent judgment and initiative when required.

Good knowledge of all Microsoft packages and always keen to learn. Able to work well under
pressure and without supervision both individually and in a team. Able to carry out detailed instructions to the letter.

You might also be expected to display these strengths:

· Team working and organisation; problem solving and project management skills;
· Highly developed interpersonal skills; discreet and sensitive in dealing with people;
· Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, including translation;
· Experience in staff induction, training, development and motivation;
· Strong analytical skills with understanding of financial information;
· Preparation of meeting materials (Power Point presentations, agendas, minutes);
· Strong IT skills and use of MS Office programmes: Power Point, Word, Excel, Outlook; Oracle Financial system; ANeT, Citrix, SAP.
