Letting Go of the Past and Starting a New One

by Yer B.
(Philippines)

My name is Yer B. from the Philippines.

I am a practicing CPA for the past seven years. But then, I have kept on changing jobs from public practice to academe to investment banking.

After finishing my graduate degree in two years, I went back to the academe and started a "lifetime" career. But then, I became a victim of politics inside the department and thus, I need to leave my work.

I was transferred to its sister school near my hometown and today, 6 months after, I will be discharged from my work because of downsizing. Still, they would like to accept me as a part-time faculty.

I really pity myself for the outcome of my career, and I feel the need of shifting already.

Yes, I find fulfillment when people see me as their inspiration to work for their dreams. But then, maybe they're already successful this time. Me, I'm about to sink if I did not do something. I admit that I envy them because of what they accomplished.

During college and my post-graduate studies, I became involved in community outreach programs where I served as a volunteer helping the marginalized and those with physical disabilities.

I was eager to accept the role of a project manager in several outreach visits to different communities during college. Moreover, I even enjoyed hosting a major sports event for special children in the school where I finished my graduate studies.

This also led me to make real my fascination of learning sign language inspired by my Deaf friends. So, I am now back to school (in a school for the Deaf) where I am working to earn my diploma in Filipino Sign Language.

I am also engaged in selling activities where our group was able to raise ample funds. I am not a prolific writer nor a public speaker but I learned to speak in behalf of my Deaf friends and to serve the special children who are dear to me.

I admit that "teaching" and "consulting" are the only things that I can do as of this time. But then, I knew that I can do more beyond these and make a career and profit of what other things I can do.

I need your help to enlighten me on this. Thank you very much. I really find time reading your articles.
