Fitter Machinist Job

by alex boss
(nsw)

The question is: why should we pick you over the other people, they have the same amount of experience as you do?

Reply by Peter Fisher

This is a very good question and one that often has people worried about the best way to answer it. How does a company choose from people who, on the face of it, have the same experience.

The first thing to remember is this:

DO NOT EVER SAY YOU ARE BETTER THAN THE OTHER JOB APPLICANTS.

You cannot possibly know that.

What you have to do is remind the interviewer of your main personal attributes and key strengths which match the requirements of the job. But also say how much you are interested in joining his team and the organization he works for.

Show that you have great interest in the company’s activities as well as the job itself. Demonstrate your interest by mentioning what you know about what the business does. If you also ask a few pointed questions, the interviewer will be gaining vital insights into your personal attributes as a candidate.

Talk about how your experience and training with previous employers has given you a solid grounding with different types of machines and using different materials.

Interviewers will watch your body language to see how self-confident you are. Stand straight; hold your head high, your shoulders back. Use a firm handshake. Look the interviewer in the eyes, even when confronted with unexpected questions. However don’t hold eye contact for more than say 60% of the time, after that it can become a stare and feel hostile to the interviewer. Avoid saying things like "I think..." or “I believe that…” too often because that makes you sound unsure.

Use phrases like "I know...because..."

The reason why they will pick you over the other people is because you make yourself more interesting, by being interested in them and their business.
