CV writing advice
by Andreas Duerkoop
(Dubai, UAE)
I recently had my CV written by another online company and it looked very nice, however it was the same industry, which is hospitality in my case.
I wish to change to another industry but am not really sure to which one.
Having worked in hotels for over 14 years i would consider myself multi-tasked in various areas.
I am outgoing, good with people, great at networking, team-player, leader etc etc.
Would be great if you could advise me something.
(p.s. have you ever thought of opening a branch of your company in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, i think you wouldl have a lot of business )
regards
Andreas

Andreas I don't know enough about you to advise you what to do next, but if you possess the range of skills and experience which I suspect you will have developed over 14 years in the hospitality industry, then you should have many choices open to you.
You mention you are outgoing, good with people, great at networking, a team-player, a leader and so on, and in all probability you will have done most of the following too:
* planning and organising accommodation, catering and other hotel services;
* promoting and marketing the business;
* managing budgets and financial plans and controlling expenditure;
* maintaining statistical and financial records;
* setting and achieving sales and profit targets;
* recruiting, training and monitoring staff;
* planning work schedules for individuals and teams;
* meeting and greeting customers;
* dealing with customer complaints and comments;
* addressing problems and troubleshooting;
* ensuring events and conferences run smoothly;
* supervising maintenance, supplies, renovations and furnishings;
* dealing with contractors and suppliers;
* ensuring security is effective;
* carrying out inspections of property and services;
* ensuring compliance with licensing laws, health and safety and other statutory regulations.
If that is the case, you have an excellent range of intrinsic skills which will be highly transferable to other occupations.
What you need to do is analyse your skills to see which skill you most enjoy using, then with that as a starting point, put together the best set of skills.
You can then use something like the Occupational Outlook Handbook to find a job or occupation which uses a high proportion of the skills you most enjoy using.
Next you should read my page on writing a career change CV or contact me again if you want my help to write a new CV for your career change.
P.S. Great idea about opening up in Dubai!
