The purpose of the Curriculum Vitae example (see below) is to inform prospective employers of a job seeker's qualifications and relevant experience for a position with the organization. This example shows you a very good way to layout your CV for easy reading of your job history, qualifications, achievements and experience.
UK versus US & Canada
In the United Kingdom a CV is usually quite short (no more than 2 sides of A4 paper), and contains a summary of the job seeker's employment history, qualifications and some personal information. Most CVs will contain keywords based on your key strengths (see
key strengths examples) that potential employers might pick up on and illustrates the applicants background in the most positive light.
In the United States and Canada, a Curriculum Vitae is used specifically in academic circles and for medical careers and is far more comprehensive - more in line with the original meaning of the term. For most recruitment concerns a resume will be used. A CV includes much greater detail about education than a resume and may often include an exhaustive list of professional history, academic credentials and publications, and usually runs to many more pages than a resume.
The example on this page shows how you can make your CV very specific and create enough relevant detail to interest a prospective employer, without the document being too long. Use this sample as your own Template and get started.

When you lay out your CV like this, with lots of white space and the page well broken up, it makes it much easier for the reader, who may well be the hiring manager to discover the information they need. I know from my own experience as a recruitment consultant that a CV like this will get a second look whereas some are just too long and boring to read.
Notice the use of action words at the beginning of each 'achievement' statement rather than a continual use of 'I' which gets very tedious.
This example will fit comfortably on 2 pages which is the optimum length you should ever submit to an employer.

When you produce your own curriculum vitae I suggest that you work with a type face like 'Arial' and a point size of 11 or 12 for maximum clarity. You should also note that when your write your own, it is not necessary to write 'Curriculum Vitae' at the top of the page.
The Curriculum Vitae above shows how you can make your own CV very specific and interesting enough with sufficient relevant detail to attract a prospective employer. It also shows you the way to keep it concise without the document being too long. Please feel free to use this sample for your own personal use only as a Curriculum Vitae Template to get you started.
What makes a great CV ?
Writing a CV is a difficult task regardless of your level of experience with the process. While the content of your CV is critical to its effectiveness, the layout and the format you utilize are equally as important. To get started, you should research various CV styles and find out which best stouts your field.
The biggest mistake people make when composing their CV is using a generic template provided in your text editing software, like Microsoft Word. These templates are usually outdated and very difficult to format, not to mention that they do not transfer well to online job applications. Avoid the quick-fix mentality of these CV templates, and invest some time in finding resources that will provide you with up-to-date helpful ways and 'CV How To' to compose a winning CV.
