Corporate Paralegal
(Westchester, NY)
I am a Corporate Paralegal more specifically Real Estate in Commercial Property maintenance.
I enjoy being a paralegal however want to get out of "Real Estate". I'd like to get into any other area of law that's not Real Estate.
1. How can I write a cover letter when all my skills are focused on Corporate Real Estate and
2. Where can I obtain the skills I need to get into another area of law if my resume has "real estate and corporate" written all over it?
Thanks,

It sounds like you enjoy being a paralegal but the shine has come off real estate and its not too hard to guess why recently.
Much of what you do and the skills you have will be transferable to another area, so the first thing to do is decide which other area of law you might find attractive.
Then you need to establish what essential skills and knowledge are required in that field so that you can compare what you have with what is needed.
To find out what is required, do an internet search for "---- paralegal job description" which should give you what you need to get started.
Otherwise take some time to read the entries in the Occupational Outlook Handbook which you can access free from here: Occupational Outlook Handbook.
If you have a skills gap you might look to some of the professional online colleges to bring your skills in line. Read my page at Online Education
Then of course go and read some of the cover letter examples before you start writing your own cover letter.
