Ask A Career Change Question...

Do you have a career change question that you need an answer to? You can ask me a specific job related question on this page and I'll give you my best answer, but please fully explain the circumstances and background behind the question you ask.

If you are concerned about confidentiality, you can ask your question anonymously if you wish, just leave the details blank when you submit your career change question.

Many of my visitors to www.your-career-change.com are thinking about career change issues such as:

  • Why Do I Want To Change Careers?
  • Do I Really Want To Change My Career?
  • What Transferable Skills Do I Have?
  • How Do I Write An Effective CV or Resume
  • How Do I Want To Use My Existing Skills?
  • Can I Change Career At My Time Of Life?
  • What Do I Need To Change My Career?

Are you wondering about how to prepare for an interview? Are you confused about what should go into your CV or resume? Please submit your question below, in as much detail as possible please.

I strive to do my best with my knowledge and experience of the job market and related industry. Please note that different organizations might not follow the exact same methods of interview and selection that I outline, but they will be the best available advice.

I not only try to answer any career change question but I will try to also answer questions regarding skills, CV writing, cover letters, and other related important subjects such as interview questions and what to do first if you suddenly lose your job.

I cannot provide specific answers to interview questions other than in general terms so please don't send me a list of questions you expect to be asked. Follow this link to get all the Interview Help you need.

Please remember that this is not legal advice upon which you can rely, it is general information about career change and job finding, based entirely on my experience and is my opinion only. If you have a grievance against an employer you must seek legal advice where appropriate as this information is general. Thank you.

First let me ask you a couple of questions.

Do you understand the importance of your job description? The work skills that you use to do your job are your key employability skills and as such can be adapted to lots of different organizations.

Have you sorted out your key strengths and your key qualities carefully so that you are able to fully utilize them to showcase your suitability for the job you are seeking?

Do you have a job search or career change question you want to ask me? Does your career change question fall into one of these 6 areas:

1. Why Do I Want To Change Careers?

Try to be very clear about why you want to leave your present job so that you are able to avoid whatever is the root of your discomfort in a future job. In my experience as a career coach, the most common reasons people quote are that they:

2. Do I Really Want To Change My Career?

Is it really your career that you want to change or is it something else associated with your job? Your boss for instance? What would improve your day to day satisfaction with your work? If it isn't your career as such, but just something to do with your job then a career change may not be the answer, when what you need is to continue your career, but with some changed conditions.

3. What Transferable Skills Do I Have?

You should spend some time to analyse your skills gained through every job, course or leisure activity you have been involved with. These are the transferable skills that are potentially of interest to most employers. With the following list of key skills, try to record examples from your work experience, college or other academic studies and don't forget to include aspects of your social or home life.

4. How Do I Want To Use My Existing Skills?

You may not need to go for a complete career change where you do something different. Because most other roles or jobs overlap in their skills requirements, you can almost certainly use the knowledge, skills and capabilities that you already have. Network with other people to find out if there are opportunities in your own line of work: personal contacts, past colleagues, customers or suppliers or members of a professional group you belong to

5. Can I Change Career At My Time Of Life?

Of course you can! A career change is possible at any time of life if you have the desire and motivation to do it. A midlife career change may be just the right thing for you.

6. What Do I Need To Change My Career?

There are no secrets to winning a new job, but if you don't follow an ACTION PLAN that WORKS, you may find it much harder to get the job you want. As a Career Coach and Job Search Expert I have developed a career counselling plan that thousands of men and women just like you have used and it has been proven to work!
