Career Change From IT To Human Resources
I have done my MBA with dual specialization in Human Resource Management and Information Technology.
I have worked as Assistant Network Administrator for 3 years and then as a Customer Relations Officer in a Telecommunication Company for 2 years, after that I was hired back by the University where I was working as Assistant Network Administrator, But this time as a Network Administrator.
Now in order to move to the Middle East (UAE) I accepted a job offer of Ticketing and Reservation Officer in an Airline with relatively less salary and irrelevant to my educational background.
I desperately want to make a career change in Human Resources, but as you know most of the organizations do not prefer freshers in this field, please help me in this regard, what should I do?
What type of cover letter and CV do I need for an entry level HR position? what should be the description of Objective as an entry level HR career seeker? and also how can I make my Professional Experience(which is totally irrelevant to HR) in favor of the Human Resources position?
And also if you could suggest any good books or authors on the subject of Human Resources which can help me polish my skills and increase my knowledge of the said topic/field.
Looking forward to your answers,
Thanks in advance.

Reply by Peter FisherThe most important thing in making a career change from It to human resources, or any other discipline is that you have an urgent desire to move into the new career field.
As you have covered the subject area in your MBA, you have a good start, but you must now identify what skill level you have so that you know what you are offering to a potential employer.
Working in HR is not all about people skills; there are a lot of other activities which you will probably have experience in such as database management and record keeping; using advanced organisational skills; prioritising and meeting deadlines; managing groups and teams; multi-tasking on different projects at any one time and ensuring that day-to-day activities run smoothly.
In your Ticketing and Reservation Officer in an Airline job, you have probably developed your interpersonal skills to a higher level than many other people who might be pursuing the same jobs as you so you have real life experience that is invaluable.
Your CV Profile / Objective might look something like this:
A well qualified and enthusiastic individual with exceptional work ethic and demonstrable ability to complete a wide range of activities requiring clear communication, excellent organizational skills and attention to detail when working with a wide range of people from different backgrounds and cultures. Works well on own initiative and as a team member to ensure the smooth and efficient completion of allocated tasks. Now seeking a challenging entry level role in Human Resources area.As far a covering letter goes, to make a career change from It to human resources you need to carefully identify the appropriate skills plus your passion for the HR arena and fill your letter with confidence and positive messages.
