About the Author of Your Career ChangeHello, my name is Peter Fisher and I'm a Career Coach. If you're a fellow professional and would like to build your network, visit my LinkedIn Profile. You might also be interested in taking a look at the 'lenses' I've built on Squidoo. Find mine at Peter_Fisher or find me on Twitter. More about the author: I now run my own career coaching business using this website as my main shop window which is open all hours. I've been in so called 'people' businesses for nearly all of my working life, at least since 1976 when I left the engineering career I had been pursuing up till then. I had been working as a contractor in the engineering design industry when I was invited to join the agency side of the business as a contract manager with the job of finding suitable draftsmen for a range of contracts. That developed strongly to the point where I was Director of the business 14 years later and following a downturn in the market, I was made redundant shortly after that! Between 1990 and 2002 I held several good jobs in recruitment, employment tribunal representative, redundancy and outplacement counsellor, HR consultant and business manager - all aspects of job and career change. Although I usually had no great difficulty in finding new jobs, I went through downsizing or redundancy four times and well remember the feelings of disappointment and rejection every time it happened. This tale about the author is simply to say that if you are going through something similar and that is why you are here looking for help with getting a new job, then I understand what it is like. Don't PanicIf you have arrived at this site because you too have been downsized or made redundant, then I hope you will find it helpful. What I really want to say to you now is, however difficult things may appear, DON'T PANIC. The world is not going to collapse overnight and whatever happened YOU ARE STILL THE SAME PERSON as the day before it happened. What I mean to say is that you still have all the skills and qualities you possessed before the redundancy and they will be needed by another employer! I wrote this practical and I hope, easy to follow guide to Successful Career Change with the sole intention of helping you to achieve your own career change or get back to work quickly. I hope you will find the guide to be full of clear advice and straightforward steps that you can put into practice today. You could also take a look at the book list on the site; these books, written entirely by myself will provide additional insights and material to help you with your career change. Although this site is about helping YOU with your career change issues, building this site and learning new techniques to bring my expertise to you actually created a virtual new career for ME! I explain all about it on my Unexpected Career Change page where you will see about the author and the changes made. You can make the career move or complete a career change or easily achieve the job you really want. This might even be still with your present employer, but this guide will help you to redefine your role. If you’ve just gone through a redundancy or downsizing you’ll also appreciate the pragmatic steps laid out to guide you through the career search transition to a fresh new start. These are the exact same things I did to get myself back to work and they are the same things I've put into practice with thousands of other people. Most people will use this career change approach to help get them an exciting new job. However, if you're chasing a promotion, or want to negotiate a better salary, it really amounts to the same thing: you’re after a new job with your existing employer, but need to re-define by negotiation the terms of that job! If you are trying to work out how you can ask for a raise in your pay. Use these guidelines to build yourself a solid case – particularly based on your skills and
achievements
and your contribution to the business or organization. I have written this practical guide in straightforward language so that it contains concrete advice, tips and specific examples you can use; in fact everything you need to make sure you get to where you want to be. All of us can achieve our ideal role so long as we do what needs doing and don’t make excuses. You will not find me giving you any “hype” here, just good advice that you can adopt immediately. I have applied everything to my own situation and I know it works. In the pages on this site you will learn how to work out not only the best type of job for you, but how you can go about getting it.
