You will soon discover that CV and resume writing is partially science and partially art, so if you are going to write a really effective CV or Resume you may need to change your writing style to produce the most compelling document that demands a reaction from the reader, whether that person is the decision making manager or recruitment consultant.
Let's get this straight, the document you produce now, is not supposed to be an official record where you include everything you’ve ever done, its sole purpose is to get you to an interview.
Try to think about your CV and resume writing in the way a copywriter produces a glossy brochure for new cars or exotic holidays; the intention is to produce desire and action!!
The only thing you want from the reader of your CV or Resume is ACTION!
You want your CV to stand out in such a way that the person reviewing it cannot help but insist you come in to meet for an interview.
Now let's take a closer look at what makes compelling CV and Resume writing.
Even if you think you've heard it all before and your current CV or resume is pretty good because it has always done the job in the past and you have managed to get some interviews, times have changed and the correct way of writing your CV is now a different matter altogether.
You know that job selection is at least initially down to how well you sell yourself on paper. But did you ever consider that if your writing skills are even slightly out of date, you might be setting yourself a massive barrier? Hiring managers and recruiters are looking for certain elements in your job application - your CV and cover letter - and if they don't see what they want, they may not go any further with you.
Have you got the communication right for the level of job you are going for? Have you recently re-written your CV or just re-vamped it? Did you get someone else to appraise it for you? Have you equipped yourself with the winning CV and resume writing approach?
Remember your CV can all too easily work against you if it’s not just right.
This might not seem like much to worry about, but you should realize that most personnel managers or recruiters get hundreds of applications for every single job, so it's clear that a good CV can make the crucial difference.
There is a lot to think about, but if you follow these straightforward steps you'll find that
CV and resume writing
can be made very easy.
